Dec 2017 | Future Projects

GERA will implant five new renewable energy projects in 2018 (solar, hydro and biogas). We will also initiate energy efficiency projects with corporative clients in São Paulo and in Rio de Janeiro.

Besides these projects, GERA is developing other 20 MW in renewable sources.

Dec 2017 | GERA Commercializes First Remote Self Consumption Hydro-power Plant in Rio

Distributed Generation (DG) means energy generated by the consumer himself, be it where the energy is consumed or remotely.  The energy generation in small power plants near their consumption units represents an economy on the transmission line.

In the last few years there was an advance of technology for smaller projects (especially solar) and a modification in the regulation, allowing auto generation in different renewable energy sources. This new setting created the possibility of cost reduction allied to sustainable energy generation alternatives. The adjusted regulation also allows remote self consumption, improving the concept of DG, as it allows the generation to be in a different location from where the energy is consumed, as long as they are in the same distribution area.  A client that doesn't have a roof with potential to generate solar energy can, for instance, consume the energy of a small hydro-power system from another location, but in the same distributor’s area.

Following the concept of remote self consumption, GERA was responsible for the energy commercialization of the first remote self consumption power plant of Rio de Janeiro (SHP Serra located in Paracambi) in Light's concession area.  GERA was responsible for all the legal, regulatory and commercial activities of the well-succeeded migration process from the over the counter to the DG market, bringing renewable energy at lower cost to a big retail chain.

Thanks to the success of the operation, GERA has signed energy commercialization contracts in the DG model with five other power plants and is currently in the process of commercializing energy for other power plants around Brazil.

Dec 2017 |  Anzol and Bambu Power Plants Initiate  Commissioning Phase

The Small Hydropower Plants (SHPs) Anzol and Bambu have operated from 1926 to 1945. GERA acquired the projects in December 2016, initiated constructions in May 2017 and are currently commissioning their machines, in order to start commercial operation in January.

We have met the deadlines and budget targets of our pilot projects. All the energy has been hired through long term contract by first hand  regional and national clients, according to the distributed generation model.

The two SHPs summed will have an installed capacity of 2MW, with the sufficiency to meet the energy required of 10.000 homes, according to the average Brazilian energy consumption*, avoiding the emission 3.609 tons of equivalent CO² per year.
